I'm an Art Director. That can mean many things but in my case it's about design, across digital and print. Predominantly in the publishing world for editorial products, but in the last five years working with brands to produce a wide range of content.
My experience means I can wear a number of different hats. I have lead, grown and managed several design teams and picture desks, but also still relish getting my hands dirty and designing. Able to brainstorm an initial client brief, then create the pitch document complete with visuals of the idea, and am comfortable presenting to the client. Once booked, I can oversee or indeed execute the delivery. Art directing photoshoots, buying fonts, setting up templates, creating an overall look and feel. I find every single stage in the process challenging and interesting - there's always a new idea, an interesting way to present and an exciting way to execute.
I recently undertook a week long UX course that gave me a solid understanding of the whole process - from how to gather the best user research, setting goals, creating personas, flow-charts, wireframes then through to prototyping and usability testing. I have experienced all of these stages through my daily work, but I believe the importance of putting the user first is essential in anything we do, and this overarching knowledge is key.
One of my main strengths is working with people. Whether that's with an editor, producer, photographer, illustrator, account manager, project manger or developer, I pride myself in working collaboratively and being motivated to produce the best possible outcome. I strongly believe you get the best out of people when they believe in what they're doing and they feel they are contributing to something exciting.
